You need to take charge of your aging, or it will take charge of you.”
— Bertha Johnson, Iona client
You’ve just retired and are contemplating the next stage of life. While you may see retirement as a time of great possibilities, you may also feel a sense of loss or find the transition stressful.
Wouldn’t it be nice to give yourself an hour or two a week to focus on yourself and your goals for the future — away from housework, errands, aging parents, adult children, or the countless other activities that interfere with planning for the next stage of life?
Iona’s Take Charge/Age Well Academy gives you just that: time away from the day-to-day to focus on your future. The first program of its kind in the region, Take Charge/Age Well Academy was designed with healthy and proactive older adults in mind. Just like parents or professionals who formed networking groups earlier in life, participants find comfort and joy meeting other people who are going through the same experiences. There’s an added benefit: studies reveal that older adults who plan ahead need fewer intensive services later — which results in cost savings to both individuals and to the community.
Take Charge/Age Well Academy demystified the aging process. It reinforces that we are not alone, moves you to be more proactive, to be lighter, and enjoy aging.”
— Michelle Dompierre, Take Charge/Age Well Academy alumna
