Promoting healthy aging through the arts and creative expression is an important aspect of our work.
Through workshops, discussions, exhibits, and more, Iona provides opportunities for you to pause, connect with your creative side, and see the world in a new way. Additionally, as a proud partner of the National Center for Creative Aging — which shares space at Iona — we encourage all who walk through our doors to engage creatively because best practices show that creative engagement increases your physical and mental well-being. Take a look at what we can offer you.
The Lois & Richard England Gallery at Iona
Dedicated to Lois and Richard England, longtime supporters of Iona and the arts, our Gallery visually demonstrates Iona’s commitment to promoting healthy aging and creative expression. Since 2007, our building has featured artworks by talented artists from the area who are 60+ as a way to showcase how our community members age well and live well — and continue to creatively express themselves.
Three times a year, the Gallery features artists who work in a variety of media through our Guest Artist Program. With each new exhibition, we invite the public to join us for:
- Free Lunch & Learn discussions;
- Q&A’s with the artists;
- Gallery tours;
- Artists workshops, and
- Meet the Artists reception with refreshments and live music
In addition to our rotating shows, donated artworks by well-known artists such as Willem de Looper and Arlene Raven, friends of Iona, former Guest Artists, and participants in our Wellness & Arts Center enliven Iona’s building as part of a permanent collection.
Creative Engagement Opportunities
Iona also regularly hosts play readings, book discussions, meet the author receptions, and opera discussions. Take a look below for our upcoming art events.
