Four times a year, Iona hosts a Memory Café for individuals with memory loss and their caregivers, family members, and friends to get together in a safe and supportive environment. This is a judgement-free, fun zone — where family and friends can enjoy good food, good entertainment, and good company.
Last month, Iona’s Wellness & Arts Center and members of the community gathered for a Memory Café to celebrate a belated Mother’s Day in a unique way — by building with LEGO® sets. Loretta Veney, a trained LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator, invited participants to think with their hands and have every voice heard. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is an interactive, inclusive, and fun facilitated event designed to enhance communication and listening skills for families, teams, and organizations. Loretta’s sessions for those with cognitive issues and their caregivers are perfect for building memories together.
Those who attended enjoyed a meal, friendly conversation, company, and the chance to reminisce about the greatest lesson their mothers taught them.
