The Gallery at Iona Presents Artwork by Acclaimed Local Artists, Rose Mosner and Kathleen Williams and Poetry by Lane Jennings
Meet the Artist Reception Held on March 4rth 2010
Washington DC- The Gallery at Iona is excited to present the artwork of acclaimed local artists, Rose Mosner and Kathleen Williams. Rose Mosner is Iona’s new Artist-in-Residence and Kathleen Williams is our new Special Guest Artist.
Mosner has had a long and dedicated career with a commitment to art education. During her time as an art teacher in the New York City School System she was the recipient of an award co-sponsored by the Asia Society in NYC and TDF Tapes in Japan that allowed her to travel to and study in Japan.
Mosner began making abstract acrylic paintings and 3 D wooden wall hangings in 1995 followed by mixed media collages. The materials for these collages came from a variety of sources; “photos from art history, found objects and all kind of things”. Rose retired early to pursue “making art” full time. She continues to create abstract acrylic paintings and collages. She is influenced by music, nature and especially art history, both past and present.
Williams began her training at the London School of Arts and Crafts in the early 1930’s, and was exposed to works as varied as the Impressionists and the Arts and Crafts movement. Continuing her study in the U.S., she earned an M.A. in sculpture, and then immersed herself in ceramic techniques. The Gallery at Iona is honored to display thirteen of her works in clay, porcelain, wood and marble.
Lane Jennings, Poet in Resident, will present new works inspired by the artwork of Mosner and Williams and offer readings of published works relating to love. The Gallery at Iona, a part of Iona Senior Services, seeks to create a welcoming and engaging exhibition space for visitors to spend time enjoying artwork. Mosner’s paintings and collages and Williams’ sculptures will be on display through mid April. A Meet the
Artist event is being held on Thursday, March 4th, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gallery at Iona, which is located at 4125 Albemarle Street, NW, Washington, DC. Champagne and chocolates will be served. The event is free and open to the public, so we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the work of these talented artists.
