Information on Caregiver Consultations
- Are provided by Iona’s experienced care managers (social workers and nurses).
- Give customized information that can help you plan for your older relatives. Commonly discussed issues include:
- Whether a loved one should move or remain at home.
- Legal and financial concerns such as powers of attorney and how to pay for services.
- Which senior living facilities might be the best fit for your older relative.
- How to manage health issues.
- How to find home care.
- How to find the right medical help, including assessments for memory loss.
- Referrals to transportation, support groups, social activities.
- How to communicate with a family member who is unwilling to accept help.
- How to address concerns about a senior’s memory loss, depression, substance abuse or challenging behaviors
- Handling family conflict and the stress of caregiving, whether long-distance or local.
- Are provided by Iona’s experienced care managers (social workers and nurses).

Consultations are conducted at Iona’s Isabella Breckinridge Center in Northwest Washington, D.C., in your home anywhere in Washington, D.C., or inside the Beltway in Montgomery County.We can also serve you by phone if you live out of the area.
Who is eligible for a consult?
Anyone concerned about an older relative or friend, local or long distance.
What are the charges for the consultation service?
Consultations are offered on a sliding-scale basis, depending on income.

Where are consultations provided?
Consultations are conducted at Iona’s Isabella Breckinridge Center in Northwest Washington, D.C., in your home anywhere in your home anywhere inside of Washington, D.C., or inside the Beltway in Montgomery County We can also serve you by phone if you live out of the area.
Who is eligible to receive services?
Persons age 50 and above who live anywhere in the metropolitan Washington, D.C.,area are eligible for consultations. Iona also provides consultations to family members of seniors living locally or at a distance.
When more in-depth service is needed, Iona’s care managers can assess a senior’s strengths and preferences as well as challenges and risks. Creating a plan specifically tailored to each individual’s situation, our care managers will identify resources and assist with putting services into place. What are the charges for the consultation service?
Consultations are offered on a sliding-scale basis, depending on the senior’s or family’s income. Seniors living in Washington,D.C.in Ward 3 and parts of Wards 2 and 4 may be eligible for services subsidized by the DC Office on Aging.
