Advocacy
Established in 1981, the Citizens Advisory Council is a group of fifteen to twenty volunteer leaders committed to providing informed advocacy for senior citizens. It seeks to draw more attention and resources to the needs of senior citizens, including their need for opportunities to continue to contribute to society. More specifically, the CAC’s official mandate, from Iona and in its role as a Mini-Commission on Aging, is “to serve older persons by identifying and seeking to satisfy needs and gaps in services, promoting collaboration and networking among groups concerned with the elderly, and keeping the community as well as older persons themselves informed on aging issues.” Current priorities of the CAC are the priorities and available resources of the DC Government to serve older citizens, aging in place, transportation, and the continued engagement of seniors in society as employees and/or volunteers.

"I take working here as a learning experience. Seniors have a lot to offer. They like to share their life experiences and I like to listen. The learning experience comes from listening to their stories."
